From KMZ to Delfast and the Armed Forces: what happened to the legendary Dnipro motorcycles
Cars carry the body, but motorcycles carry the soul. This is exactly what can be said about Dnipro, which was assembled in Kyiv, conquered deserts and movie screens, and today remains in memory as a symbol of the era
The history of the Kyiv Motorcycle Plant (KMZ) is not just the history of the enterprise. It is the story of a bike that was created in the heart of Ukraine. It overcame the desert, was filmed, became recognizable outside the USSR, and then disappeared from the market. The Dnepr, which was on the road for decades in different parts of the country, is now a rarity, volunteer equipment or an exhibit in private collections.
LIGA.net investigated how KMZ became a legend, why Dnepr motorcycles appeared in Hollywood and Italy, how the rights to the brand were bought by Ukrainian startup Delfast, and how it all ended.
