Leak of war documents from Pentagon. Jack Teixeira pleads guilty
Jack Teixeira, a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, pleaded guilty to leaking classified military information to a Discord channel, the NYT reports.
Teixeira was accused of attempting to distribute classified documents about the war in Ukraine and other important information. The posted files contained details about military equipment, troop movements, and the hacking of an unnamed American company, as well as an attempt to assassinate American servicemen abroad.
Teixeira was arrested by authorities in April 2020. The government found no evidence of his intentional espionage motives, but prosecutors concluded that he wanted to profit from online friends. The court scheduled a hearing for September to confirm the sentencing agreement, which could be from 11 to more than 16 years in prison.
