Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to three scientists for quantum research
John Clarke, Michel Devore, and John Martinis have won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics. The scientists received the award for research that demonstrated the principles of quantum physics in practice. This was reported by ,, Reuters news agency.
The prize recognizes their contribution to the development of the latest quantum technologies, such as quantum computers, sensors, and secure data exchange systems. Scientists have demonstrated quantum tunneling and quantized energy levels in electric circuits that can be held in your hand.
Clark is at the University of California, Berkeley, Devore is at Yale University and the University of California, Santa Barbara, where Martinis also teaches.
The prize is worth 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately $1.2 million) and is divided among the winners. Physics is the second prize of this Nobel week after the award in medicine, with the chemistry prize expected the next day.
As a reminder, Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to for the discovery of immune tolerance mechanisms.
