Ukrainian scholar recognized for groundbreaking work in information-based complexity

Kateryna Pozharska, a graduate of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, received the 2023 Joseph F. Traub Information-Based Complexity Young Researcher Award in mathematics, reported the Faculty of Information Technologies and Mathematics of the Lesya Ukrainka University.

This prize was awarded for her significant contributions to information complexity theory. The award is given to only one young mathematician in the world, who is not older than 35 years old.

Kateryna Pozharska is a researcher at the Department of Theory of Functions of the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. She is also currently doing postdoctoral research in Chemnitz, Germany, thanks to a Humboldt Foundation scholarship. The working group in which Kateryna works focuses on modern problems of approximation theory and the development of algorithms for reducing information complexity, which find application in the field of machine learning.

The award is $1,000 and includes a celebratory plaque.
