Kyiv seeks to boost electric, autonomous vehicle industries with manufacturing incentives
In February 2024, the Digital Transformation Ministry announced plans to extend a special legal regime to manufacturers of electric vehicles and bioprosthetics to stimulate the industry.
The government plans to stimulate their own producers of electric cars and test unmanned cars, the Deputy Digital Transformation Minister, Oleksandr Bornyakov, said in an interview with LIGA.net.
"We want to prepare the ground for them to be tested and produced here. We have already created an entire ecosystem in which it is very easy for any company to come to us, create production, create testing. Everything that is needed from the point of view of unmanned systems can be tested here," said the official.
According to Bornyakov, there are plans to stimulate the creation of domestic manufacturers in Ukraine and many patents have already been opened. Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov found several teams that are engaged in electric vehicles, says Bornyakov: "The idea is that such teams can be stimulated to enter the market, unlike the classic automobile industry. We can develop the freight sector."
Ukraine ranks fifth in the development of electric transport in Europe with 80,000 new cars by 2023 (90,000 in Poland), 12,000 charging stations and 80,000 fast chargers, Bornyakov noted.
