A symbol of insolvency. Why Russia is writing off its only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov

One of the most famous ships of World War II is the German battleship Tirpitz. However, it is known for being the pride of the fleet, standing in port for almost the entire war and eventually being sunk.
Its closest contemporary equivalent is the Admiral Kuznetsov, a Soviet aircraft carrier that was appropriated by Russia. But while the Tirpitz was constantly under attack, the Russian aircraft carrier seems to break down by itself and does not leave the docks.
Recently, it has been reported that Russia is going to finally write it off. LIGA.net has been looking into why Moscow no longer has its own aircraft carriers, the history of the Kuznetsov's creation and combat use, and why the Kremlin persistently continued to invest in its repair.
From this material you will learn:
- How the USSR tried to create its own aircraft carrier to no avail
- Why Admiral Kuznetsov is undergoing permanent repairs
- What does the Kremlin's refusal to maintain it mean
