The Great Defense Game. Why Trump's "Golden Dome" is not just missile defense

From the first moments of his return to the White House, Donald Trump has been actively announcing high-profile projects in various fields. The most ambitious in the defense sphere is the Golden Dome (GD) initiative, which is supposed to protect the United States from any missile attacks from Russia, China, Iran, or the DPRK.
This raises obvious parallels with Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative, which was introduced in the 1980s. Moreover, the goal of the new project is not just defense: in the current administration's vision, it is also an argument to convince Canada to become the 51st state.
LIGA.Tech has been looking into what the Golden Dome is, why plans for its readiness and effectiveness are somewhat overly optimistic, what other countries may join its development, and how Washington's potential rivals may respond.
