As early as 2024, test cellular communication of the fifth generation (5G) may appear in Ukraine. However, this will only be a pilot version, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said in an interview with Forbes.

The decision to implement 5G technology to speed up mobile Internet was made in the spring of 2019. However, this process was hampered by the global pandemic and the Russian invasion, Fedorov explained.

Ukrainian authorities are currently in talks with one company that specializes in 5G networks, and expect the pilot launch of the project to take place as early as 2024. In addition, Fedorov said that his team is currently working on improving the 4G network. This is important because during a full-scale war, equipment has been moved to support certain regions, and this has created disruptions to mobile internet and mobile communications for civilians.
