Instagram CEO denies rumors of microphones being used to target ads

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said in his post that the company does not turn on the microphone on phones to eavesdrop on conversations and select ads.

He noted that users would see a microphone indicator on their device, and its operation would significantly affect the battery charge.

Mosseri explained that the accuracy of Instagram's recommendations and targeted ads is ensured by data from advertisers and algorithms that analyze user behavior and interests of similar people. The new privacy policy, which will be released on December 16, will allow the use of data on user interactions with AI products.

As a reminder, Instagram has started testing the new interface in India and South Korea. Meta recently reported 3 billion monthly active Instagram users .
