Ukrainian IT company joins forces with NASA for lunar endeavors

SoftServe, a Ukrainian-rooted IT company, will participate in an international consortium developing technological solutions for lunar construction under the NASA program. The company made the announcement recently.

The project was launched after Astroport Space Technologies, an American company, secured a grant and funding under NASA STTR 2023 Phase II. The consortium, led by Astroport, will focus on developing technologies to build lunar landing pads in extreme conditions and ensure safe lunar landings.

SoftServe's Robotics & Advanced Automation division will contribute to the project. The team's task is to model robotic systems for real-world construction, mechanical interaction, and free movement on the lunar surface.

According to Lyubomyr Demkiv, Robotics Practice Leader, the team's work will involve creating numerous digital simulations of the lunar construction process, taking into account the unique characteristics of the lunar soil and various scenarios.

The project is scheduled to begin in January 2024.

SoftServe's Robotics & Advanced Automation division specializes in the development of software for hardware and automated systems, including robotic systems for industries ranging from aerospace, agriculture and automotive to heavy industry and construction.
